Q´eswachaka Bridge is the last traditional Inca suspension bridge of its kind, made from ichu, a native highland grass also used as fodder for Andean camelids. The bridge is renewed every year by local communities through a traditional collective ceremony. Along the journey, the route passes through rolling mountains and picturesque towns typical of the Peruvian Andes. One of the main scenic features is a group of four lagoons located relatively close to one another: Pomacanchi, Acopía, Asnacocha and Pampamarca. These high-Andean lagoons provide habitat for wildlife and are home to endemic and migratory bird species.
The main destination is the Q´eswachaka Bridge, located in the district of Quehue above the Apurímac River canyon. The bridge measures approximately 28 m / 92 ft in length and 1.20 m / 3.94 ft in width. Its annual reconstruction by local communities preserves an ancestral technique and tradition that continues to the present day.
